.family means the world to me.
.i had forgotten
what it felt like to be
apart of a small town
for a bit.
.then i went
back for the funeral
last week
and i was quickly
reminded
by my
hometown ground.
.small towns.
.are not for me.
.and i'm not certain
they ever will be again.
.i see nothing wrong
with those that
live in them.
.husband likes them.
.unfortunately.
.but i need the kind
of home
where the.
.city never sleeps.
.where everything is open
after ten pm.
.where becky down the
street doesn't know
that my son scored
an 'f' on his report card.
.where i can still be a big fish
even though i'm in a
sea of thousands.
.i need lights.
.with a side of subway systems.
.i need brownstones.
.with a large order of restaurants galore.
.i need a city.
.a big city.
.a supersize me city.
.even slc is too small for me.
.i need small towns
only for visitation rights.
.preferably in the
good ol' south.
.however.
.i'm not knockin'
small towns
this little lady
does them justice
just fine
and elegantly too.
.they just aren't for me.
